Transfer a stroke patient to HK for treatment within two days
Background
The client’s mother suffered a stroke (brain hemorrhage) while traveling in mainland China and was admitted to a remote hospital in Shenzhen. After examination, doctors confirmed her condition was very serious. The family expressed concerns about her treatment in the mainland and requested her transfer to Hong Kong for further medical care.
Follow-Up
20 August
14:47: The case handler advised the client to contact International SOS for medical evacuation assistance, as they could arrange doctors or professional for the transfer. However, the client was initially unable to connect with SOS.
16:03: The HMG team stayed with the client to provide support. After persistent efforts, the client successfully reached the SOS hotline, allowing arrangements for the medical transfer to proceed.
21 August
08:08: The mainland hospital arranged an ambulance to transport the patient to the Hong Kong border, where she would be handed over for transfer to Tuen Mun Hospital.
12:40: International SOS coordinated an ambulance to pick up the patient from the border and transport her to Tuen Mun Hospital.
14:22: Upon examination, doctors at Tuen Mun Hospital reported that the patient’s condition was stable. She was hospitalized for observation, given medication to control her blood pressure, and further treatment plans would be determined based on her progress.
